Insurgent Movie Review

"Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves- and herself- while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love." - Insurgent, Product Description.

On Thursday 26th April, I finally got around to watching the second film in the Divergent Trilogy, Insurgent!
I read the first book Divergent in 2011 and continued to read the rest of the trilogy according to when they were released. Reading the trilogy that long ago meant that I was a little foggy on what happened in the books but I remembered the important parts, I also remembered how much I loved the books and how well written they were.

I highly recommend watching Divergent before watching Insurgent because the second film carries on straight after the ending of Divergent, which was Tris, Four, Caleb and Peter jumping on a train trying to escape Eric and the people working for Jeanine.
Insurgent was directed by Robert Schwentke instead of Neil Burger who directed Divergent. This I thought made a big difference in the overall layout and look of the film, it meant there was a lot more CGI in this film then there was in Divergent, not that this is a bad thing because it works for a lot of films and a lot of people like CGI. I do but there was a lot in this film and it was a little overwhelming.

I personally believe that if I hadn't read the books that I would have enjoyed the film a lot more than I did. I didn't not like the film, I was just very confused by a lot of what was happening because I thought it went very off base from what happened in the books, like the whole box opening process? Didn't know that bit and there was other things but I don't want to ruin it for others so I shan't go too much into it. A lot of the time I was thinking "Was this in the book?" Or "Did this really happen."

I still thought that the casting was amazing and obviously I loved Shailene Woodley and Theo James's acting. I especially loved the chemistry between the two in Insurgent because they were much more open about their relationship. But most of all.... I loved Miles Teller in this film, I loved his snarky comments and his overall demeanour and I really hope he is in Allegiant a lot, like he was in Insurgent. On the other hand I didn't like the casting for Four's mother, only because of the fact of how young she looked but I think it was only because Four is meant to be 19-20 so I guess it works, it's just Theo James is like 30 something so it took a while to get used too.

I really loved all the action in the film, there was never a dull moment to think it was boring and I'm very excited about the next one. I would defiantly recommend watching Insurgent, if you are a fan of Divergent but be prepared for it to be quite different from the books and the first film.

Hope you enjoyed this post, I have no idea what I will be post next.
Cya!
